Sur son compte Insta Stepping through film, le photographe britannique Thomas Duke prend en photo dans la vraie vie des captures d’écran de films cultes, replaçant ainsi dans le monde réel des scènes n’appartenant jusqu’alors qu’à l’image et l’imaginaire. Et c’est vraiment impressionnant.

Every member of the cast embodies their true-to-life persona with talent and suave, it’s truly a delight to watch this series grow into the arms of the nation. Wales - just some of the stunning locations used from around the UK for filming. This production is primarily set in London with the first two shots seen here taking place at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich (also home to many Hollywood blockbusters) with the others being shot all around the lush countryside of stately homes and glorious estates. I feel extra British while writing all of this, proud to be! “There has been an awakening...” • ad | Deep in the forests of Puzzlewood lies a filming location from a galaxy far far away… Star Wars: The Force Awakens! There are lots of key shooting spots here at @puzzlewoodfod with this spot being where Kylo Ren and Rey have their first showdown on planet Takodana. The Rise of Skywalker is out tomorrow – though of course you can catch the Star Wars triple bill and the midnight screenings TONIGHT at any @cineworld cinema. As always, it’s a great time to have an #CineworldUnlimited card! It’s the final chapter in this extraordinary saga so I’m sure every screen will be pretty packed! When are you seeing it? • I was guided by the lovely team at Puzzlewood who told me about what was filmed - I then went exploring solo to see what I could find! “I used to have nothing... and then I got this job, this family. But nothing lasts forever.” ? • The trailer for Black Widow was released last week and as soon as I recognised one location I couldn’t wait to visit ?? This location is known as the Hankley Common in Surrey. What helped me in putting two and two together was that I came to this exact spot 2 years ago in search of a Skyfall location – this is where the final battle ensues at Bond’s childhood home. I also read an article earlier this year, I’ll link to it in my story, where the local news wrote about the filming of Black Widow here on the Common. There wasn’t much to go on at the time but I was hoping it would show up in the trailer so I could come and explore. The aesthetic and foliage was instantly reminiscent of my past experiences here. Very excited for this next entry in the MCU, thank you Marvel! ? • The shot from the trailer has clear points of reference in the treeline and slight drop of the hill in the back – this mirrored the landscape in one specific direction as seen in the photo. Some plants and shrubs also matched really well which was an added bonus, no surprise there as this scene was filmed only 5-6 months ago ? “Would you like it... gift-wrapped?” ?? • Love Actually turns 16 years old today! ?? This beloved gem of a film is everywhere this time of year and I love it all. I think every household will watch this at least once between now and the end of the year. I went to visit the location of my favourite scene in Selfridges: where Rowan Atkinson gift wraps a present for the late great Alan Rickman. The lengthy process of this scene along with the hilarious performances makes this such a funny moment in the film and I just love everything about it! Do you have a favourite scene? I can’t wait to visit some more over the festive season ??? • So much has changed in Selfridges in 15 years. You can clearly see this from the photos above. I asked around and was pointed in the direction of a gentleman in a blue suit who has been at Selfridges for 22 years! He knew exactly where the scene was shot as he had a cameo in it. The ‘Wonder Room’. This room is the first room on the left if you walk in the main shop entrance via Oxford Street. “You’re made up of everything you do...” ??? • ad | Christmas is in the air in London which is full of the festive filming locations of #LastChristmas! I was lucky enough to attend the premiere last night and the festive spirit was high. I might just see it again with my #CineworldUnlimited card once it’s out at @cineworld this Friday! It’s such a heart-warming film, and while it’s a little cliché, it has what we all need right now; warmth and a celebration of life! I really enjoy @paulfeig’s work and this is certainly one I also appreciated. I loved recognising pretty much ALL of London and any other person even slightly familiar with these cobbled streets will have the same satisfying feeling. A true love letter to this beautiful city with the added bonus of George Michael! • When I first heard about this project I said to myself ‘Get ready to visit this entire film, Tom!” and as soon as that first trailer dropped in August I knew it would be possible. I'll make sure to include each exact location in my stories! Such a lovely tale which is interwoven with the heart & soul of the city through Covent Garden’s market, St Mary’s Church, Regent Street, Phoenix Gardens and so on all the while making them shine with festivities aplenty. Lest we forget ? • Today is Remembrance Sunday. Today we honour all those who gave their life for their country; from the two world wars and future conflicts. Every man, woman, soldier, medic, engineer, captain. Everyone who gave their tomorrow so that we could have our today. Tomorrow also marks 100 years since the first two-minute silence was observed on Armistice Day, 11th November 1919. • Dunkirk is one historical event where many lives were lost but also saved. It’s a moment in history that will never be forgotten.No photography can do justice but the least we can do is keep it in our memory and commemorate those who fought for us. 8. Bohemian Rhapsody

“I see a little silhouetto of a man. Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango?” ? ? • On this day in 1975 the greatest song of all time was released… ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’! 44 years later and it is still possibly THE greatest song of all time while also being the most streamed song of the 20th century – Freddie Mercury would be proud! In honour of this I visited a scene from the 2018 film, @bohemianrhapsodymovie, and revelled in the birth place of this Oscar winning performance from Rami Malek. His transformation into Freddie Mercury is something to stare at in awe, he truly embodied the iconic stance of this musical legend with the utmost respect, power, and style. Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon, together with Freddie, created this unique sound that has lived on forever and the legacy is illustrated really wonderfully through all of their respective parts in the film. About the song, Brian May said, “We all interacted, we all contributed bits and pieces and argued as we always did, but it was Freddie’s baby and everyone respected that in the end.” • This pub in the film is The Rutland Arms (a short walk from Hammersmith tube station) in Hammersmith, London. It’s where the band have their first meeting with John Reid. It was such a beautiful place to visit with views across the Thames - a great sunset vantage point. The barman was really lovely too and was there while filming – they all came in and had a pint and he remembered serving Rami Malek! He also served Daniel Craig a few months back as they were filming the new Bond film, ‘No Time to Die’, around here. 9. Joker

“Put on a happy face.” ? • My first visit to the Bronx lured me towards this steeping staircase of menacing delight. Glistening grey steps towered in front of me and a faint image of a dancing clown, thrashing his limbs elegantly with a smile spread widely, came racing towards where I stood. The Joker. Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. My eyes re-created his enigmatic moves… one step at a time. My heart shuddered at this location - being where this controversial and captivating film was partially born. ‘Joker’ is releasing in most places this week and despite a lot of headlines being filled with negative takes on this project, it’s simply too hard to ignore the artistic, Scorsese, vintage vibes that this film exudes. Unnerving is a good way to describe the movie. Visceral, haunting and thought-inducing are other ways for sure… it’s easier said than done to ‘put on a happy face’. • The first trailer for ‘Joker’ was released in April this year. I really wanted to visit a scene from it while I was in New York and so I managed to find this (already seemingly iconic) location during my time exploring in July… 3 months ago now! The closest metro station was 167th St. It was a short walk to the steps (167th street between Jerome and Anderson Avenues) and a slightly longer walk to a ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ location which also shot some scenes around here. 10. Skyfall

“He’s keen to get home.” ? • On this day in 1962 the very first Bond Film, Dr No, was released! Today is also #jamesbondday so what better way to celebrate than with Daniel Craig sliding down the middle of an escalator to catch his tube train. This is a scene from Skyfall where Bond is in pursuit of Silva (Javier Bardem) and goes to great lengths to make sure he catches him. This involves leaping either side of unsuspecting commuters as he slides down the centre of one of the escalator blocks; not even the strangest thing one could see in London. Sadly, they actually planned this scene… Craig didn’t just randomly appear during rush hour which would have garnered many humorous reactions. What’s even more fitting is that, coincidently, Bond Street station is a perfect match for this photograph since the real station is not open to the public. • The first poster for ‘No Time To Die’ was released today as we get ever closer to the 25th Bond film out next April. Exciting times! This scene was shot at a disused Jubilee station at Charing Cross. It’s only accessible via a private tour which I’m yet to go on as they’re always sold out. One day! “The best and wisest men I have ever known. My Baker Street Boys; Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson.” ? • I teamed up with @baftacymru to explore the scenery of Cardiff/Wales and step through some iconic BAFTA nominated productions that have been filmed in the area ahead of their awards on the 13th October. From Sherlock to Gavin & Stacey, to Doctor Who and Torchwood - to name but a few. Shows I’ve experienced for many years and now I’ve had the chance to follow in their footsteps! Did you know a lot of Cardiff is used as ‘London’ on screen? This first Sherlock shot being a prime example; that’s actually @cardiffuni while it’s meant to represent Central London. Doctor Who also has a lot of this. Screen sorcery! I’ll be sharing more in-depth info on each location in my story so you’ll be able to find each one if you’d like to have a little adventure of your own. • It was so much fun exploring Cardiff properly for the first time. I’ve travelled over and under the city before but never in heart of it all. So much to see and Doctor Who locations around every single corner. So interesting to meet all of the locals and see the sights. “I don’t wannna go... I don’t wanna go Mr Stark...” He’s not going anywhere. Spider-Man is back in the MCU! ? • Last weekend London saw its biggest ‘Car Free Day’ across the city. Cleaner steets, cleaner air. We need more days like this; it should be weekly, not yearly. Having @towerbridge car free meant going to capture some @spidermanmovie scenes with complete freedom! I found these shots in one of the marketing trailers and instantly thought I should give it a go for real. In other relevant news... it was announced earlier today that Sony & Marvel have come to a new deal. This means Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will be BACK in the MCU. We’ll get a conclusion to that cliffhanger and we’re ready! • The final battle in Far From Home takes place here between Peter and Mysterio. However the cast only shot on the bridge for less than a day, the rest was re-created at Leavesden. “I’m thinking I’m back…” • The joy of walking across the stunning Brooklyn Bridge for the first time will forever be engrained in my memory. Yes, I may have been capturing a shot of a brutal, murderous assassin and his 4-legged friend but nevertheless it was really lovely and the sun was shining ??? New York City is the home of John Wick. These films are full of cinematic excellence in the action-field, when I was introduced to them they pleasantly gave a fresh take on the genre. Simple, effective, and most importantly: beautifully choreographed and shot. John Wick has pieced together its own world of class through the thumping beats of Keanu Reeves rocking a 3-piece suit and giving it his all and I’ll be here for it until the very end. • This shot is from John Wick 2 and the reason for choosing this moment is because a) the bridge is a beautiful backdrop and b) it embodies the essence of John Wick in one photo; Keanu and his #1 best pal. I love how this series stays grounded with a simple message of redemption and love while also being extraordinarily brash and violent. Dogs play an important role in this theme and so this photo felt perfect to celebrate John Wick aka. The Boogeyman. Brooklyn bridge is rather long so I wondered up & down looking for the spot. “You’re only given one little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.” ~ Robin Williams (July 21st, 1951 - August 11th, 2014) • Today marks the 5th anniversary of Robin Williams’ passing. We remember the joys he sowed through his personality and rhythm with life, along with the characters he bought to the screen through his pure heart of comedy gold; a nanny, a genie, a doctor, a robot, a dad, a penguin and a president. Not much more can a man do than what he achieved through entertaining the world and nurturing all of our faces to smile that little bit more. Thanks to the stars and back you wonderful, wonderful human being. • I remember waking up to this news. My heart broke. A feeling so very bewildering to hear that a man who smiled so much and who gave happiness to so many was actually breaking inside. Count your blessings and love all those around you, all can disappear in no time at all x • This is a shot from ‘Night at the Musuem: Secret of the Tomb’. It felt like a fitting film to capture today as it’s all about bringing to life those that have passed. 15. Les Animaux fantastiques

“You never met a monster you couldn’t love.” • Newt Scamander is a character I immediately fell in love with when I watched his caring spirit towards his fantastic beasts in the first film. I feel so close to his personality that it brings me so much joy to create any photography related to the character. That slight uncertainty and shyness in his persona, that quirky closed-off attitude that he often portrays – if nothing else, it’s a representation of a hero not needing to exude cauldrons of visual confidence to get by and complete the task at hand. He’s a man full of love and kindness for all that’s around him and whether the beast is big, small, fluffy, or loud he makes sure all is okay in the mind of the creature. I think we need more Newt Scamanders in our world. • I haven’t been able to do any proper locations for Fantastic Beasts because it’s largely all green screen based. The closest to a scene I did was in Liverpool back in November. I wanted to find one! I was skimming through a particular scene from the second film (where Dumbledore requests to meet Newt atop St Paul’s Cathedral) and realised the large wall in the background was the Bank of England. After that, it was a case of seeing which street around the Bank resembled this architecture… I was in luck! I found this street and saw exactly which parts aligned with the photo.
